A life fulfilled by chai and books

Laxman Rao

A lot of things in Delhi have changed over the years – the roads, the architecture, the culture, the food, the people. However, amongst all these changes, one man has remained constant, constantly driven to fulfill his childhood dream.

In 1975, a young man named Laxman Rao from Amravati, Maharashtra, came to Delhi to become a writer. He had first started writing when he was in his own village. After he came to Delhi, he honed his Hindi language skills and started writing in Hindi. But success was still a far cry.

Laxman Rao had to face many rejections and many obstacles before he could finally get any of his books published. In fact, to print his first book, he had to save his own money and market the book on his own. Eventually, he got a publisher to start printing them. His number is now up to 24 books! The best part is that he does not limit his genre; his writings include biographies, plays, and fiction.

When he arrived in Delhi, he only had a certificate for passing class tenth. Upon being asked, he now proudly declares that he completed his graduation from Delhi University and is now in his final year of MA in Hindi from IGNOU. And this, at the age of 62.

His life is indeed a source of inspiration and motivation. So many people don’t chase their dreams even in their youth, let alone at an advanced age. The life of Laxman Rao teaches us that it is never too late to do what you truly want to.
