Jim’s Jungle Retreat review: An eco-conscience resort in Corbett

resort in Corbett

A year of being stuck at home between concrete walls. Mind-numbing. So when I finally convinced myself it is safe enough to travel, a road trip seemed like the best option. So, that’s how we ended up visiting Corbett. The next thing was to find a resort in Corbett.

After much research, my husband and I zeroed in on the location. We wanted to go somewhere close enough to drive from Delhi, a place where there would be activities to do, a place where we could be close to nature. Jim’s Jungle Retreat seemed like the ideal location for our first safe getaway after our wedding. We would definitely recommend it to everyone for the perfect weekend getaway. Keep reading to know all about the property.

The service of the resort in Corbett

What stood out in our entire experience at the eco-conscience resort is the excellent service provided by the staff. I have stayed in so many hotels and resorts across the country and in different parts of the world but never has the staff left such an impact on me. Even before you arrive at the retreat, they are committed to assisting you as best as they can. The retreat is not exactly on the main road and you have to drive into the jungle to reach it. It might seem scary but do not let that short drive deter you.

Resort in Corbett: Activities on offer

If you want a modern-day hotel experience, this resort in Corbett is not the place to go. The check-in is smooth, as the staff collects your information before you arrive and fill out all the forms. Right after you check in, the in-house naturalists will take you through the activities the retreat has to offer. Some of the activities include a bird-spotting walk around the property, the ‘Mahavan’ walk to explore the flora with the gardener who has been with them for 20-odd years, and a river walk along the dry river bed behind the retreat. The property can be explored during one of these activities.

The river walk is a paid activity at INR 500 plus taxes per person. A guide from the hotel will take you for a jungle walk to the dry river bed close to the property. Nish and I thought it would be a walk to explore the flora of the area, and maybe spot a deer or two. Little did we know that it would turn into such a thrilling experience. A tiger and a herd of wild elephants were in the vicinity and only the guide’s stick to protect us, we waited with bated breath to spot.

Resort in Corbett: The accommodation

This resort in Corbett has cottages or lodges instead of rooms. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Like the rest of the facilities at the retreat, the staff ensures that you don’t feel cold when you settle in for the night. We were NOT prepared for the hot water bottles waiting inside the blanket when we came back from dinner!! The sitting area where the sun streams in during the afternoon are kind of perfect to settle into with a hot cup of tea and your favourite book.

Resort in Corbett: The meals

The property has a cafe and a restaurant. Breakfast and dinner are usually at the restaurant. The cafe is available for lunch and evening tea. The menu at Jim’s Jungle Retreat changes every day. There is a small menu from which you can choose to order a few dishes or opt for the complete menu. All the dishes that we ordered were delicious. If you are a mutton lover and the Mutton Shaljam Curry is available, do not miss it!

An hour-long documentary is screened on the lawn of the resort in Corbett every evening, with individual bonfires for each cottage or group. It’s the perfect pre-dinner activity. Alcohol and snacks are available, or you can even choose to carry your own.

The staff of this resort in Corbett goes the extra mile to make all your meals special. All three dinners we had there were at different spots in the restaurant and pool area. If the occupancy is low during your stay, you can enjoy a beautiful and quiet candlelight dinner by the pool.

The Jungle Safari

A lot of people choose to book safari online. We decided to be a little more spontaneous. So we ended up going for the safari through the resort at a cost of INR 7,000 plus taxes. The charges are a little higher if you book through your hotel, but it is definitely worth it. Their guide and driver were highly experienced and skilled. In fact, they were determined to show us a tiger. We spent hours chasing a tiger and finally spotted one. Unfortunately, we only caught a glimpse and could not click a photo.
