We, Millennial Duo, met in college during our post-graduation and started dating, even working at a few of the same places after that. When our work schedules made life difficult (Nishant having to work in shifts and not getting weekends off), we still made it a point to meet almost every week!
In the meantime, no matter what else we were up to, Delhi Messenger remained a part of our lives, something we had conceptualised and started when we were still in college! Writing blogs, creating social media posts, producing a YouTube series…we had been doing all of it.
We had been dating for more than five years and had been engaged for four months when the pandemic hit. The world around us changed. It was possibly the longest time we went without meeting each other in person despite being in the same city. When it was finally safe for us to meet, things were very different. And the fear of COVID had become an ever-present reality.
When did we get married?
We decided that we did not want to wait too long to get married. Our wish was never to have a big showy wedding. What we wanted most was to give ourselves a day we would cherish forever. We got our parents together and were married three months later…A COVID wedding!
It had always been our dream to travel together as much as possible. Due to the coronavirus, air, and train travel was not such a viable option. So, we chose the next best option – road trips! And we have no regrets at all. Between December 2020 and March 2021, we did four road trips around Delhi. It is safe to say that we are now big patrons of spontaneous road-tripping.
However, in April 2021, the second wave of the pandemic hit India again. It is ironic that we caught the virus when we thought we are ‘safely’ home, and not when we were travelling to our heart’s content (with proper safety measures of course!).
Once again, we are cut off from the rest of the world. But the best part is that this time we have each other! While we were recovering from the COVID infection at home, we realised that we want to connect with more people. We still believe that we can make new connections in the ‘new normal’ way of life.
Why did we start a YouTube vlog?
Delhi Messenger had always been a way for us to express ourselves, our interests, our likes, and dislikes, and to create content that we would also like to consume. But we felt that we wanted to do something more personalised, perhaps a sneak peek into our lives and what goes on behind the scenes. The pandemic hit a little too close to home when we got infected. We told ourselves that we should not hold ourselves back anymore, we should do things that give us joy and make each day count.
That is how we decided that we would start documenting some aspects of our lives on social media through our vlog Millennial Duo. We want to create content that gives people hope that everything is not as bad as it seems at the moment. At the same time, we want people to keep their faith in love. We want people to believe that it is possible to find happiness in the darkest of times. Cheers!
