Irrfan Khan diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour

Sharing a quote of Margaret Mitchell, “Life’s under no obligation to give us what we expect”, actor Irrfan Khan put an end to all the speculations doing rounds on the social media about his health.

The critically acclaimed actor on Friday revealed the rare disease, ‘Neuroendocrine tumor’, the actor has been suffering from quite some time now.

In a statement, Irrfan Khan wrote, “The unexpected makes us grow, which is what the past few days have been about. Learning that I have been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumour as of now has admittedly been difficult, but the love and strength of those around me and that I found within me has brought me to a place of hope. The journey of this is taking me out of the country, and I request everyone to continue sending their wishes.”

What is neuroendocrine tumour?

Neuroendocrine tumour, shortened as NET, is basically a condition in which an abnormal tissue growth arises in the hormone-producing nervous cells (or neuroendocrine cells) of the body. Such tumours can develop in the intestines, where they are the most common, in the lungs, pancreas or anywhere in the rest of the body.

Khan has garnered the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2012 and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his performance in Paan Singh Tomar.

The National Award winning actor is featured in more than fifty Indian films, and other international works such as The Namesake, The Darjeeling Limited, the Academy Award winner Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, New York, I Love You, The Amazing Spider-Man, Jurassic World, and Inferno.
