With Women’s Day being celebrated tomorrow, everyone is talking, yet again, of the women ‘achievers’ around. Amidst the cliche’s, this vibrant young woman’s heartfelt rant against all the stereotypes she’s ever had to face will definitely give you a fresher perspective on celebrating women – all women.
This is what Shalini wrote on her Facebook timeline.
On this Women’s Day, I pledge to not give a damn about folks (men and women!) who are convinced when they state (facts is what they think these are and I need to listen to them.. lol😂):
* That a Bihari woman is loud
* That I should have been slimmer
* That I should learn how to cook – because that’s where women actually belong
* That my face should be thinner for me to be attractive
* That because I am an independent women – I am not feminine
* That I speak my mind and I make my decisions – I am rude
* That I have more male and less female friends – so that makes me characterless
* That I enjoy music – as a girl do I understand trance, metal, rock?
* That I am a girl and my family has to pay a price everywhere and everytime for bringing me into this world

Shalini is a twenty-something half-Bihari half-Bengali independent girl who grew up in Dhanbad and completed her higher education in Delhi. She has been working as a journalist for the past few years and is the epitome of ‘bindaas‘ as her friends would say.
We definitely need more women like her, women who literally own it!
Well done shallu.keep it up
