Three children were injured after they were hit by a speeding car on a footpath in Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh area on Sunday (December 18) morning. According to the Delhi Police, two children received minor injuries while the third is critical but stable and admitted to a hospital.
The police said that the accused driver has been arrested and the car he was driving has been seized. “Two children, aged 10 and 4, sustained minor injuries on their legs. The third child, aged 6, sustained injuries to his head and legs. He is under medical observation,” Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
The accused, who works at a private firm as a loan recovery agent, didn’t have a licence and he was learning to drive the car when he lost control of the SUV near Lilawati school around 9 am and rammed into the kids who were standing on the footpath.
“Gajender (30), a resident of Pratap Nagar, lost control of his vehicle near the Lilawati school, police said. The car hit the children who were standing on a footpath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.
The police have registered an FIR against the driver under sections 279 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Brezza car has been seized by the police and a probe has been initiated against the driver.
