Shirish Kunder’s ‘Kriti’ goes viral

Shirish Kunder is someone who is known only as Farah Khan’s husband and the person Shah Rukh Khan slapped. A few unfortunate ones may remember him as director of the cinematic doozy, Joker.

However, it has taken only two days to overturn that perception about Kunder. Kriti, a short film that’s a pyschological thriller, directed by Kunder, was released on YouTube on June 22. Within only a couple of days, it has reached almost 1.5 million views, certifying it as officially ‘viral’.

The thriller stars Manoj Bajpayee, Radhika Apte, Neha Sharma and Manu Rishi (viewers would recall him from Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and webseries Permanent Roommates). With absolutely hair-raising background score, the film manages to tingle you in all the right places. The film deals with mental illness and the thin line it creates between reality, imagination and creation.

It’s ironic that the popularity of a film today can be ascertained by the controversies it’s been it. The ratio is usually directly proportional. Kriti, too, has already started facing it’s share of controversies already. An independent filmmaker from Nepal, Aneel Neupane, has alleged that Kriti has been copied from his short film BOB. Kunder has, however, clarified through Twitter that his film was shot before BOB released.

At the end of 18 minutes and 50 seconds, Kriti leaves you inclined to recommend it to more people.

Definitely a must-watch. Catch the film here.
