To make the monotonous metro ride on my way back home from work a little interesting, I always prefer reading. There are days when I forget to carry a book. On those days I invest my time in watching videos about travelling. Mainstream cinema is not my cup of tea anymore.
Two names, Rohan Thakur, the sole narrator and face of the series, and Bharati Bahrani, the cinematographer, were about to become part of my daily metro rides. For a good one month, my body was travelling in the metro, but my soul was in the Himalayas with these two gems.
About the series
Way Back Home is an independently produced Indian travelogue. In India, it is possibly the first of its kind in this genre. Filmmaker Rohan Thakur, aka Ronnie, a young Himachali lad embarks on an introspective journey of self-discovery across seven valleys in the Himalayas. With a mission to travel, not tour, Ronnie takes the audience on an unforgettable ride.
The show is about everything, travel, adventure, music, lifestyle, people, and fun. And the tailor-made music only adds to the pleasure of the cinematic experience while exploring the diversity of the hills.
The series is independently produced by Shoelace Films, a subsidiary of SLF Media, and co-directed by Rohan Thakur and Bharati Bahrani in its first season. The background score and original music were composed by Rohan Thakur. The series was licensed to MTV Indies between 2014–15 and was relaunched on digital content platform TheVibe.
Episodes
The series has 13 episodes and each episode covers beautifully the natural, cultural and day-to-day life of people living in these pristine Himalayan Valleys.
The pilot episode starts with Rohan travelling from Delhi to Manali to find his hometown covered in a blanket of snow. From there he travels to Kullu, Parvati, Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Sangla, Upper Kinnaur, Spiti, and Lahaul valleys and he concludes the season with travelling to Leh and Ladakh in the last episode.
After watching the first episode, you will definitely want to know about the two names I mentioned in the beginning. Read my next blog to know about Rohan Thakur and Bharati Bahrani, the two adventurous travellers with many stories to tell.
